Accent Reduction
Accent Reduction
Accent reduction, also known as accent modification or accent neutralization is the process of altering a person’s pronunciation. Speakers from any background or profession can benefit from accent reduction training. Accents often serve as a source of pride for individuals and frequently reflect the social, cultural, ethnic, and geographic background of a person.
However, at times, an accent may impede effective and efficient communication. These communication challenges may negatively affect professional and educational advancement, self-esteem, social interactions, and everyday life activities. Some people may seek such services to reduce their regional or non-native accent and align their speech with an accent more reflective of Standard American English. Others may seek accent modification services to learn a new accent (e.g., actors in plays and film productions).
At Speech Therapy For All, our therapists are trained in the systematic approach for learning, adopting or modifying the accent of your choice.
